(I) THE STANDING OBTAINED

1. My Brother (Philippians 2:25a)

2. Fellow-worker (Philippians 2:25b)

3. Your messenger (Philippians 2:25c) (literally “apostle”)



(II) THE DEEDS THAT ARE REMEMBERED

1. A mind that is engaged in Thoughtful Ministry

a) Ministering where it counts most

b) Ministering to deep personal needs

“The one who ministered to my need” Philippians 2:25d


2. A heart that deeply cares

a) For Paul

b) For the Philippians

“He was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick” Philippians 2:26


3. A spirit that is unafraid of risks that are involved in ministry

a) The risk of falling ill

b) The risk of near-fatal illness

“For indeed he was sick almost unto death…” Philippians 2:27

“For the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life” Philippians 2:30



(III) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE: HONOURING SUCH SERVANTS OF GOD

1. Rejoice

“When you see him again you may rejoice…” Philippians 2:28a

“Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness” Philippians 2:29a
