Study 62
Text: Psalm
18
GOD'S HAND DEEPLY INVOLVED
King David was involved in warfare since a young lad. He hardly ever saw peace
in his life-time! In the midst of his battles, he noted how God was involved!
"He makes my feet like the feet of deer.
And sets me on my high places.
He teaches my hands to make war.
So that my arms can bend bow of bronze.
You have given me the shield of your salvation
Your right hand has held me up."
Psalm 18:33-35
EMPHASIS
OF THE SPIRITUAL ASPECT
David did not so much speak of physical preparation as spiritual preparation
for warfare. The following expressions highlight this truth:-
1.
Shield of Salvation
If David was speaking of a physical shield, he would not have used the word
"salvation." Obviously, he was making reference to the fact that God
was there to protect and shield him from danger. God came to his rescue time
and again and thus gave him salvation from certain destruction!
2.
"Your right hand has held me up"
God's involvement was gratefully acknowledged! David knew and appreciated the
Lord's hand in his life. Without the grace of God given to strengthen him, he
would not have been able to survive the many battles he had fought in his life!
TRAINING
IN THE SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL REALMS
It is interesting to note that there is a strong relationship between the physical
and spiritual realms!
1. The physical realm
David was involved in actual warfare! He was personally engaged in battles against
his enemies!
2.
The spiritual realm
He was also aware of the fact that the spiritual aspect could not be dismissed!
There was a subtle but strong relationship between the spiritual and physical!
3.
The key
The challenge was to know how to link both the spiritual and the physical realms!
David saw God training him in this matter!
4.
A matter of learning
David was grateful to the Lord for teaching his hands how to make war! He grew
so strong that he could "bend a bow of bronze!" May we learn our lessons
well!
